Maria Joyette is a Toronto-based writer/director and a proud member of the Director’s Guild of Canada.
A self-taught creative with Caribbean roots, Maria brings bold storytelling and surreal visual language to stories often overlooked. Her latest short film, RESIDENCE, explores depression and identity through a lens of psychological horror and poetic realism.
Maria has worked on sets for A24, Netflix, and Hulu in Assistant Director roles, and is passionate about using film to crack open the echo chamber; making space for voices, rhythms, and realities often left out of the frame. She believes powerful stories can be both impactful and entertaining; art that resonates, but never bores.
